BEMÆRK: Ansøgningsfristen er overskredet

The newly established Mitochondrial Inner Membrane Laboratory (MIM-Lab) at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Aarhus University, is inviting applications for a fully-funded 2-year postdoc position to work on mitochondrial cardiolipin synthases using structural biology and biochemistry methods.

The start date is October 1st or as soon as possible hereafter. The position is for 2 years with possible extension of 1 year.

Job description

This position will involve experimental planning, design, execution and analysis to elucidate the mechanisms of mitochondrial enzymes synthesizing cardiolipin. The main focus for this position will be on mammalian mitochondrial cardiolipin synthases and complexes hereof. As the MIM-Lab officially starts in autumn 2023, you will be joining as the first postdoc and will have ample opportunities to develop the projects and your own research career goals.

The position entails:

  • Expression, purification and characterization of cardiolipin synthase
  • Cryo-EM/ET for structure determination
  • Activity assays on disease mutants
  • Identification of supramolecular complexes of cardiolipin synthase

Examples of other responsibilities (not limited to below listed):
  • Establish and develop experimental protocols and pipelines
  • Be active in presenting your work in various meetings (local at department, national and international meetings and conferences)
  • Publish results in international journals
  • Work closely with the PI to help build a sound and inspiring culture in the lab
  • Assist with daily supervision of junior researchers and students
  • General implementation of the lab

Your profile

Applicants should hold a PhD in protein biochemistry, mitochondrial biology or similar.

Essential:
  • Solid experience and documented background in molecular biology, protein purification (ideally membrane proteins) and biochemical characterization
  • Excellent communication skills in English (oral/written)
  • Ability to take ownership and drive projects forward
  • Have a collaborative mindset

Desirable:
  • Proven track record in mitochondrial membrane biology
  • Experience with structural biology techniques (cryoEM, cryo-ET)
  • Handson experience with multi-subunit membrane protein complexes
  • An interest in applying for postdoc fellowships

Finally, applicants should:
  • Be curious and ambitious
  • Take pride in being a good colleague

Who we are

The postdoc will be affiliated to the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics.

The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics is part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University and comprises research within the areas of Plant Molecular Biology, Neurobiology, RNA Biology and Innovation, Protein Science, Cellular Health, Intervention and Nutrition. There are currently 75 full time scientific staff and 95 PhD students. The department is responsible for two educations: Molecular Biology and Molecular Medicine with a yearly uptake of 160 students in total.
